Caves of Sorrow 0.3
Newness:
- An item of great importance (or at least usefullness) has been added to the game. Look out for... the bag.
- The ending of the game has now mostly been written and coded into the game, but I need to finish three more questlines before you can actually access it.
- The Priestess' dialogue and story has been finished up, but as it is tied to the Empress, you will have to be a little kore patient to see it all come to fruition.
- The Empress has had her dialogue and story mostly finished, only missing the very last part now.
- Kowai has had her code finished and hopefully fixed.
- Chīnouya can be found and her quest should be fully playable.
- The village has become a little more lively.
- Jun, Jun's friend, the matron and the sumo girls has had their pictures added and a lot of their writing done, however the questline is not yet completed. Setup is there, but not the full gain, ending or payoff. This part may be a little darker, and takes me some time to write and code right.
- Another crack of the whip at Obariyon's back, hopefully she'll stay dead when she's supposed to this time!
- Game Guide has been updated with a lot of the new questlines now added in.
Generally I am very happy with the progress on this game. We are closing in on a build that will be ready for bug-fixes and spell-checking, which is exciting. Hoping the next update will be a mostly complete game for you all to enjoy.
I have gone through patreon's new terms of service, and identidied the issues that caused my profile to be flagged. I have altered my setup, and done some updates to my patreon in general, including new (and admittedly) slightly more expensive tiers and removing a lot of old art patreon did not care for(ergo the art pack up for sale here on itch). The new tiers actually come with some benefits for those interrested, and may make an alternative way for some to access my games if paying through this site causes an issue for you for some reason. The changes are up for review, and should hopefully be live in not too many days!
I asked on the Weight Gaming forums if there was any interest in me making a Quest Coding starter pack for those who want to make their own stories. The respons was positive, even if there wasn't a lot of it. As such I have decided to get that going as well. Whenever I figure out some piece of code I find usefull, I'll make a copy of it for myself, and also add it to the Quest Kit files. As I work on and complete more of my other games, the Quest Kit will develop into a starting point for new programmers to get into game development. The kit will include: an aslx file (with copiable items, rooms, character profiles and a fully fledged map setup), a document with short how-to writeups for most situations I have met in my time using Quest (including screenshots) and a document with other useful code that is not easily copiable without knowing how and where to place it first. In the future there may also be some video guides, as I do have the means to produce such a thing, and experience from working as a youtube editor.
As this game goes into bugtesting, I will return to the previous game in the series and get that one finished as well. I can feel the creative juices working again, which is very nice. Hoping to have the rest of the Earnwile III series up and finished by the end of the year, but I make no solid promises. After that I have some other ideas laying around I want to explore, but I will reveal nothing yet.
I'll make sure to take some mental health breaks here and there, including next week when my mother in law invades my house from across the pond. I will also have a good week away from everything and everyone in July, as the wife and myself have booked ourselves a trip to a different country. We are both looking forwrd to getting away, and know that without you guys buying my games it wouldn't have happened for us this year.
So: to end this update/rambling: thank you to all the kind people that pay for and enjoy my games. I couldn't spend as much time and energy om these things without you guys! You are awesome!
