A second update on progress.

Trying a new thing of touching grass a bit more often with this development. So far it's giving me some good feedback and new ideas to try out, so I'm going to try and keep that momentum going!

A short announcement, because I feel you should know.  I am cutting my ties with a certain forum I have been frequently using to post y updates. The environment there just feels counterproductive to what I want to do, and to be honest has been affecting me and my ability to create a bit more than I would have liked lately. If something that used to be good ends up leaving you feeling down and discouraged, it's time to leave it behind and move on, so that is what I am doing. You will still find me here on itch, on discord and on reddit, so you guys should be pretty set for choices on where to reach out to me. I will also try to make more of the announcements I make on Patreon open for more people to read. Case in point (for those who want to read my full slightly rambly explanation for leaving): https://www.patreon.com/posts/fond-farewell-to-112278947?utm_medium=clipboard_co...

I would say production on the game is going pretty well. I am finding new little challenges to overcome at every turn, and it's so far been a lot of fun problem solving. A lot of the little systems I wanted to implement have also started falling into place very nicely, which has made this a very giving project so far. I bet you the grind will set in at some point though.

I have so far managed to implement:

  • A very basic character customization system which will be reflected in your in game/online profile. You can freely choose your gender, first name, hair color, eye color and height. I hope this will make for some extra immersion for those who have up until now been a little put off by the male lead characters in most of my games. This will however not have any major impact on the actual story of the game, just so that I've kept expectations a bit lower.
  • A chat system built on the typical ask and tell system found in a lot of old-school text adventure games. You can ask <subject> about <topic> , or you can tell <subject> about <topic> and they will reply. The challenge here will be to come up with different replies for different situations and levels of interaction, and to make the answers feel more natural.
  • The day and clock systems are both working. Now I simply need to properly tie them to the main character's actions. For example: if you stay up too late you will end up falling asleep at your desk, sleep through your alarm, and miss a day of work. Of course that would again lead to a loss of income for that day, and again make the next day's priorities a little harder to deal with.
  • I have figured out where to place this story in the Earnwile timeline, and found a way to tie it to the same universe without taking away the player's freedoms too much. I hope it will be to y'alls liking.
  • I've started looking through the suggestions that have come in so far, and have actually made plans to include quite a few of them into the game moving forward. Even started making art for a few of the scenarios many of you have suggested.
  • I have finished up a little more of the Earnwile family tree. If you guys are interested in any way I will make it available to you guys at some point.

Moving on I will be working on:

  • I will continue to work on the dialogue for the main girl and for the player for the foreseeable future. There is a lot of keywords and a lot of writing to be done before I would call it good enough to make for a first release.
  • Adding events that happens at set points during the game. Usually when a certain attribute goal or relationship goal is met.
  • Adding more fetishes and fun stuff you can do with Johana.
  • Adding more key words and topics to the conversations, including some that only unlocks after meeting certain criteria.
  • Still need somewhat of a story arch for the main plot of the game. I have a general vague idea in place, but a little bit more is needed to make it a satisfying story.

While I have to work within the confines of the program I'm using, I am hoping it will feel somewhat liberating to play in a slightly different way.

That's all for now! Looking forward to hearing more feedback and getting more input from you guys.
